Daisy Blue-canan

Keegan Connor Tracy is a true Hat Lover.

When I first met Keegan, what became clear to me right away, was that I had indeed found a kindred hatty spirit.  What I did not know, right away, was that aside from being a talented actress (Bates Motel, Once Upon A Time, Battlestar Galactica) she is also a talented jewelry making enthusiast and quite the creative and crafty soul! Keegan has been a huge fan and supporter of The Saucy Milliner  since the day we met at the Once Upon a Time season one wrap party  when she struck up a conversation with me over the head piece I was wearing!  After hatting her up for several occasions and seeing what a crafty and fashionable gal she is, it was not long before I had the the idea that she might be interested in guest designing for The Saucy Milliner.  When I approached her, she was immediately on board and right away had some fabulous ideas for designs.  🙂

Keegan has a fun sense of style and loves wearing color. An avid reader and fan of  vintage aesthetic and drew her  inspiration for this design from her love of ‘The Great Gatsby’.  It is a cloche hat, blocked on an antique deco-era hat form, from my collection of beautiful hat blocks. Made  using the highest quality millinery fur felt, the base is a warm magenta,  trimmed by hand in a beautifully contrasting cardinal red.  Scrumptious! A five petal flower with a trifecta of czech crystals stamen, to catch the light and add a touch of magical sparkle garnish the longer side of this asymmetrical beauty.

Designed totally by Keegan, and hand blocked and trimmed here at my Vancouver Atelier, using traditional millinery techniques and tools,  the Daisy cloche fits a size 22″. It is a helmut cloche, so it is snug fitting. Each hat will be made to order and on a very limited production.

Blocking Miss Daisy - Keegan having just blocked a Daisy cloche for herself, on the deco era hat block. Look out, Jefferson - The Blue fairy is after your job! (Actually, I made Jefferson's magic Portal hat for him. Over 20 of them...! Check out my other blog entries!)

This is a delightful project to work on – I hope to collaborate more with Keegan, in between her busy filming schedules, that is – she just wrapped a movie she worked on with Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche!  I also hope we get to see more of the Blue Fairy in the next season of Once Upon a Time, which was just confirmed for a 3rd season.  Hoorah!  I am very lucky and get to work on the show from time to time, helping the costumes department out with hatty needs, and I look forward to a new season full of gorgeous costumes! Please see my previous blog entries for more on my involvement with the show!

Thank you, Keegan, for being such a great supporter of The Saucy Milliner’s work, a wonderful friend and a true Hat Revivalist.  I’m looking forward to seeing you when we trim these hats! 😉

If you are interested in ordering one a Daisy Cloche, please contact me on hello@thesaucymilliner.com.  Each hat is made to order and production time will vary, depending on my current build schedule, please enquire.  The Daisy is $295 plus shipping ($25 Canada, $40 USA).  As hats are all custom made to order, they are not refundable, so please be certain of your headsize!  The Daisy cloche  is available in a 22″ only – this hat would also suit a 21.5″ head size.

You may also purchase one of these creations through my Etsy shop – https://www.etsy.com/listing/153321698/daisy-blu-canan-a-gatsby-inspired-cloche

Below are selected photos of  the lovely and gorgeous lady herself, sporting some Saucy Milliner hats.  I love it!

Have a wonderfully hatty day!

Kelly

On the cover of WE last December, wearing one of The Saucy Milliner's Edwardian inspired riding perchers. Gorgeous.

At the Vancouver International Film Festival red carpet event, wearing a 1940's style topper with quill details. If anyone got poked in the eye, I'm sorry about that... 😉
