The Saucy Sloper Fedora
The Saucy Sloper Fedora
This fabulous design gets it's name from the lovely, sweeping, sloped brim which helps to create this dramatic, yet extremely easy to wear, chic fedora.
Despite it's contemporary, minimalist look, the brim block that I use to create this hat, is actually a vintage mold which was carved by the esteemed LaForme of Paris. LaForme was highly sought after (and still is!) and made hat blocks for the couture houses of Paris and many famous milliners, in fact - until LaForme retired, milliner extraordinaire, Philip Treacy, was having his blocks almost exclusively made by him. I'm so lucky to have been able to add this beauty to my block collection!
This hat is made in two parts - first by blocking the crown and letting it dry, and then sinking the blocked crown into the brim, and using every bit of steam and skill to ease the felt over to cover to the edge of the brim. Not an inch of felt left after blocking this one! Although I keep the look minimal with no trim, as for me, this hat is all about the amazing lines - there is much buffing and sanding and fluffing to be done, to polish the brim edge, and the interior sweatband is invisibly and meticulously, stitched in by hand The result - an heirloom hat you can wear with the confidence that it will look splendid and bring you many years of fun wear.
This hat is made in a standard head size of 22.5".
Brim: Left 4.75", Right 5"
